Program Highlights, 1990 to 2007

  • Liaison and co-operation with education organizations such as the Canadian Council for Multicultural and Intercultural Education, the Association for Canadian Studies and the Alberta Association for Multicultural Education.
  • Liaison and co-operation with human rights organizations such as the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights and the Northern Alberta Alliance for Race Relations.
  • CMEF was a major partner for the 1998 World Conference on the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
  • Published "The Edmonton Declaration" resolutions and outcomes from the conference Canada: Global Model for a Multicultural State.
  • CMEF hosted a national and international conference in 2002 on the topic "Canada: Global Model for a Multicultural State"
  • CMEF was a partner of the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights in presenting a series of workshops on racism in the workplace.
  • CMEF was a major partner in the 2006 International Conference, Building World Peace: The Role of Religion and Human Rights.
  • Liaison and co-operation with third-world development organizations such as the Alberta Council for Global Co-operation.
  • Publishing three books:
    • Culturally Diverse Collaborations
    • Towards Women's Human Rights
    • Canadian Multiculturalism, Dreams, Realities, Expectations
  • Conducting major provincial survey and producing an extensive report on the influence of print and broadcast media on the attitudes of Albertans on key issues of multiculturalism and diversity.
  • Presenting briefs to the federal government task force on Media, the Human Rights Review Panel and hearings on the Canadian Citizenship Act.
  • Sponsoring an annual Harmony Brunch that invites individuals and community organizations to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
